I have 3 children and not once was I honest about pp to my doctors bc I was extremely afraid my kids would be taken away. That fear is VERY real. I stand with Lindsay.

Not being honest with a medical provider is SO common. I’m a therapist and for some clients it takes months to truly open up about what is going on. It’s about trust, safety, and yes there’s lots of fears about being judged and what not.

The entire notion that mentally ill people have to make good decisions at every point in a mental health crisis to be considered a decent person is not only completely unreasonable, but in fact the exact opposite of what you can expect from people in the midst of a mental health crisis. Early psychosis includes paranoia and unreasonable fears. The fact that she's exhibiting those things is evidence of mental illness, not the evidence of not having mental illness. 😩

They could have done a a genetic test for medication. It would look at her DNA to see how her body would break down and respond to different psychiatric medications without it having to be trial and error.

I’ve waited 10 months PP to get on meds and seek help bc I am terrified someone will take my daughter from me even though she is perfectly healthy loved and taken care of. The fear of having ur child taken while PP is so real. Especially if you and the father have any type of differences

We underplay our symptoms because ... IT GETS USED AGAINST US! My children are all adults now, but I vividly remember down playing what was happening in my head because my ex would use it in court. I didn't want to lose my daughter.

she was a nurse who knew exactly what the consequences of being fully honest with healthcare providers would be. if she had any idea that Patrick was seeing someone else and a divorce could be on the horizon, the last thing she'd want to add to it is mental health and psychosis related stays to help him and his new girl gain custody of the kids she'd been nearly single-handedly raising at that point.

do we blame people with cancer for ignoring a symptom and not going to the doctor?? no, of course we don’t, because we all sometimes want to pull the curtains shut and hide away from what could be a huge change in our life. why do we expect mentally ill people to do every single little thing by the book instead of hoping that we can ignore something and we’re being dramatic and overreacting with it? why do mentally ill people get given no grace and are held to standards of people who are not mentally ill? why are people in PSYCHOSIS meant to do what even a sane person does not do??? i don’t think people realise when you are in psychosis you have very little to no control over things, reality itself looks different and you can’t just will yourself out of it
