Early in my career. I pulled up to my office and went in to my desk. A few minutes later, one of our directors came over to my desk. She was white and tapped me on my shoulder, loudly saying, "Antonio when you oull up to the office can you turn down your music and bass.". I was confused. Frowning I said to her," my radio doesn't work". She gasped realizing she messed up. Then some of my white coworkers started calling her racist. It was crazy how she just assumed it was me. She then started crying and later on that week, she was fired for that

my friend and i were the only black girls in a white sorority. my friend was late to a meeting and a girl said “oh that’s a black people thing.” my friend was one of 4 girls that were running late. when we told her what she said was racist, she immediately started crying and said “i understand discrimination, my brother is autistic.” the cognitive dissonance is insane.

The problem is that the white people who instigate these types of situations wouldn't lose a wink of sleep if the police encounter ended in the death of the person of color. It's gross.

This happened to me once. So I got the police report and sued the person in small claims court. They had to hired a lawyer to deal with me. A few thousand dollars later, the lesson was taught. People need to start doing this.

Also of note, after her son finds his phone, she berates him and demeans him with over the top hand gestures, over HER decision to irrationally accuse a random stranger of theft. EVEN in that moment, she's pushing the blame away to her son who wasn't even involved beyond losing the phone.

It’s so odd, because if one of my three kids lose something, it’s their job to retrace steps…we don’t immediately accuse the nearest black/brown person. I hope he did press charges.

Mind you, if it was an iPhone she couldve pinged it and made it make a sound. Theres also an option to “find” it nearby where it tells you essentially if you’re walking the towards it or not and tells you when it’s ’within arms reach’. She utilized none of that. Just ran up to someone and accused him of doing stuff. That’s weird. I lost my AirPod and came back to the parking lot and ‘pinged’ it until I found it- it was behind someone’s tire. Never once did I assume it was INSIDE their car or accuse them of picking it up. 😮💨

As a white woman I check MY feelings when I’m alone in public crossing paths with a black man. We are preprogrammed to automatically assume we’re unsafe. I make sure to smile and acknowledge the man in passing- deconstructing those thoughts of automatic harm.
