@shotgun.usa: The Rave Preservation Project’s (RPP) goal is to preserve “Underground, Rave, Club, Disco, and any other underground memorabilia” through scanning original prints into their online database. The project highlights the DIY origins of dance and rave culture mixed with the artistry of the community. The aesthetic and styles utilized in these posters still resonate with fans today, as seen through plenty of modern artwork (now shared on Instagram instead of handed to you outside the club). Run by Matthew and Tani Johnson, the couple takes care of each flyer, ensuring they are cleaned, preserved, and scanned by hand with thousands to explore throughout the database. In a world where AI begins to encroach on all of culture, it is refreshing to revisit our roots in dance music and appreciate the work put into creating the community we’re a part of today.
