@kara_marlene: 🚨 THIS MAY BE ONE OF THE BIGGEST PROBLEMS WITH LINDSAY CLANCY’S MEDICAL RECORDS. Defense expert Dr. Donald Condie, a forensic psychiatrist, took the stand today and walked through records from several of the doctors, hospitals and programs involved in Lindsay’s psychiatric care. Then Kevin Reddington asked him specifically about the records from Dr. Jennifer Tufts, the psychiatrist who treated Lindsay in the months before the deaths of her children. His assessment? The records were “sparse.” Lots of boxes being checked. Not a lot of actual narrative explaining what Lindsay said, what was discussed during the appointments, what the doctor observed, or why certain treatment decisions were being made. And one of those boxes reportedly said something incredibly important: Her condition was deteriorating. That is what keeps sticking with me throughout this trial. Lindsay was repeatedly interacting with the mental-health system. She was seeing providers. She was changing medications. She was reporting that she was struggling. People around her were watching her decline. And yet now — years later — an independent expert is sitting in front of this jury looking back at some of those records and saying there simply wasn’t much documentation explaining what was actually happening during those appointments. He also testified that other records described Lindsay as dissociated, not in touch with reality, experiencing auditory hallucinations and struggling to function normally. And according to Dr. Condie, there wasn’t even thyroid testing documented through Dr. Tufts — something he believed should have been considered in a postpartum patient. For me, this is another piece of testimony that raises a much larger question about Lindsay’s care. How many warning signs were there — and how many opportunities were there for somebody to realize just how badly she was deteriorating? That does NOT answer the ultimate question of criminal responsibility. The jury still has to decide that. But when I look at the medical testimony as a whole, I keep coming back to the same thing: She was asking for help. And I think there is going to be a very serious conversation after this trial about whether the system that was supposed to help her actually did enough.
