A man was dragged from a Kansas City Council committee meeting on Tuesday after disrupting the public comment discussion on the proposed Royals stadium project near downtown. Videos taken from inside the Finance, Governance and Public Safety Committee meeting show the man, identified by The Star as Darrell Miller, complaining that supporters of the new Kansas City Royals stadium were being allowed to speak longer than the allotted two-minute public comment period. “If you all are going to have a meeting, at least be fair and just,” Miller said, before guards placed hands on him to try and remove him from council chambers. “If you’re going to tell us to stop at two minutes, … get your hands off of me.” The incident spilled into the hallway, where two security personnel pinned Miller to the ground. At one point, Miller remarked that he could not breathe. Video from the hallway shows Miller being held down and in handcuffs, repeatedly asking why he is being arrested. A man who helps the handcuffed Miller up from the ground appears to be bleeding from his neck. Kansas City is considering a proposal to provide up to $600 million in public funding toward a new Royals stadium and team offices in the Crown Center area. The Royals are pursuing a $1.9 billion ballpark that would anchor a broader $3 billion entertainment district, with additional public funding expected from the state of Missouri.
