it's honestly wild to me that people are so casual about swapping out the holocaust for any other genocide. minorities are not interchangeable. trauma is not interchangeable. make a new character if you don't want him to be Jewish. making him Palestinian would be a dishonor to Palestinian suffering as much as to Jewish suffering, saying that they are basically just hot-swappable events in history.

World War II, and subsequently the Cold War, informed the creation of the X-Men. Him being a Holocaust survivor informs his character to such a degree that even his main phrase, “Never Again,” is tied to the Holocaust itself. Changing his origin would fundamentally change the character and the context that surrounds him.

this is why I was so pissed off with the Doom casting, why is RDJ coming back? Why can't Victor von Doom get a new casting and not a "What If Tony was Evil?" separate the actor from the art all you want but the MCU wants continuity. What If has no place in that.

I think they fundamentally of the character is that he experienced human cruelty based on something as futile as religion and his fear steams from if they could fear religion imagine what they'd do to people who pose an actual threat to them, and they've been multiple human cruel acts done on large populations based on things as futile as religion such as race , ethnicity or gender. I think him being a savivour of any of these acts in the modern day is not a big deal

If the struggle is that we’re too far away from the Holocaust for his character to be a survivor and still live in present day, then why not centre the next movie in the 90’s? Why does it HAVE to be present day? They’re in an alternate universe, make the same choice as they did with the Fantastic Four movie which is set in a pseudo-futuristic 1950’s.

Magneto’s background cannot be changed. It is historically important and changing it would do a disservice to the large majority of the people who built the comic book world in America. It is insane to think that his history would be changed. At his core he was a young Jewish boy who was tortured by the same people who tortured little people and twins trying to figure out biodiversity and how to control it. It’s a core part of who he is.
