When my kids were young I did exactly what I was told to do by well meaning therapists and lawyers, I stayed silent about the bad behavior that dad would display and all that did was teach my children they deserved to be treated badly and not to stand up for themselves. Do not take that old advice. Teach your children they deserve to be treated with respect and you deserve to be treated with respect. Call out the bad behavior or it will never stop and the pattern will repeat.

For me, it’s not like you’re just talking about “normal”, annoying coparenting stuff and talking about them for no reason. Everything they do to you and the kids is pretty serious, and I think you’re more than in the right to talk about it publicly. Him being their father doesn’t mean he gets to hurt and everyone just stays silent about it - if he/they don’t want things said, then they shouldn’t do those things..

Kids don't benefit from adults hiding abuse. Kids don't benefit from us lying to them and hiding the bad shit they do. Trust me. My kid has a bunch of resentment towards me for not being honest enough and trying to hide the bad behaviour. I'd hoped it would improve, it never did and then, to them, all of a sudden the other parent was an asshole who let them down all the time. and when they were little I could hide it with an ice cream day or something else but they get too old for that shit to work eventually.

So it’s better to not tell anyone and suffer in silence. To not have it be public of what’s going on in your life. To help people that are going through the same thing and need influence on how to overcome it? Or even worse to let the worst happen a nobody know and the guilty parties get away with it.
