I grew up in the Middle East, watching Palestinians get murdered by Israel for as long as I can remember. Attended an American school, and my American textbooks talked about how Israel was a magical and wonderful place. The cognitive dissonance was so strong it prompted me to learn the history really really well. There is nothing good about Israel, past present or future

For me, it was learning about the 1953 Iranian coup. What do you mean we overthrew a democratically elected leader to replace him with our autocratic puppet? I was told we were the world’s policemen, just wanting to spread democracy! Any trace of “American exceptionalism” died in me then.

The story of Pochahontus, the lack of knowledge on hawaii and the natives, the watered down history of black enslavement, we remember saint Patrick in a positive light when he helped commit g–ocide. we see all the time what happens when the bad guy wins.
