Here's a simple argument. When is the last time a new technology was introduced and in order to advance it, the hardware got bigger? Hardware always gets smaller. Computers that took up warehouses in the 80s now fit in ur phone. So ur telling me... Smart and wealthy people are investing billions in giant data centers knowing that by the time they are functional, China will be able to fit the same amount of data on a common hard drive. No chance.

Rural Kentucky here, the area thats been confirmed for a data center recently has had military choppers, multiple ones, multiple times a day. (Holy run on sentence, batman!) Its been weird, because after the town made an uproar on FB, the entire post about confirmation was removed completely.

I believe the data centers are a side effect of overcapitalization. The AI companies have so much investor capital and there's only so many engineers they can hire. The data centers are the only tangible asset the AI companies can produce to show the investor class that they are doing something with their money.
