@leahshomestead: I got into homesteading thinking raising our own food would SAVE us money… 😂 But after milk cows, ducks, chickens, dairy sheep, meat rabbits, and bees, I’ve learned something: NONE OF THEM actually pay for themselves. Once you add up the animals, feed, fencing, barns, equipment, losses, vet bills—and ALL the time—it gets expensive fast. But I’d still choose this life. Because the real payoff isn’t cheaper food. It’s knowing exactly how our food was raised, what went into it, and what didn’t. ❤️ #homesteading #homesteadlife #raisingyourownfood

Unfortunately, this is true. 😂 Not one animal at our place pays for is keep, but I sure do have the best meat around.

Try geese for meat? They eat mostly greens that you can forage and can grow big fast.

French ducks are cheap to keep couse 80% of their diet are greens that they forage themself and they have something like 30 ducklings per year but you need to free range them

I love the honesty though! So many people get into even just part of what you’re doing completely believing that they’re picking the easier and healthier option with no real costs. There’s a reason the world turned to mass-produced meat - and that’s not me defending factory farms, but it’s worth warning people before they start down the wrong path for themselves. Like I have no interest in raising chickens, but I buy my eggs from the homesteaders down the lane. I do what I can within the sacrifices I’m willing the make.
