The documentary follows Meron as she investigates the stories of Eritreans who were kidnapped and held hostage in hidden camps across the Sinai. Many were forced to contact their families and beg for ransom while being subjected to horrific abuse. And then there are the people who simply disappeared. One detail in the footage makes the scene even more haunting: Meron recognizes that some of the belongings belonged to Eritreans. A pair of shoes carries the words “Qeyih Bahri” — Tigrinya for “Red Sea.” Imagine walking through a desert and finding the belongings of people who may never have made it out.
