At its core, Dianetics takes the real effects of trauma and wraps them in Hubbard’s invented terminology. He calls the mental recordings of painful experiences “engrams,” claims they are stored in a “reactive mind,” and offers auditing as the solution, despite this mechanism never being scientifically established. That becomes very concerning when paired with Scientology’s high-control structure. People experiencing distress are offered an unvalidated explanation for their problems, then directed into a system of auditing, paid courses, escalating levels, organizational loyalty, and, in some cases, disconnection from critics. It is essentially a two-part system: an unsubstantiated therapeutic product coupled with recruitment and retention practices that can make vulnerable people dependent on the organization.

I don’t know man, her smile and mannerisms don’t seem genuine. It’s acting to sell a book. Then another. And another. Then your roped in to spending hundreds on all of it. No way in hell they’d let someone come in and video. You can’t have friends from the outside only from the inside. It’s like nothing else exists beyond those walls. To me that’s a cult and brainwashing. Everything is controlled. No way to live in my opinion.
