I was looking through the NYT census map data for areas where notable % of communities self identify as having hungarian descent, and one of the highest ratios is not from NYC up past Yonkers on the far side of Hudson. apparently it also has a significant Jewish community that traces their roots as such! oh, and there's a few oddball spots out in PENN by the mason-dixon line apparently

Seriously tho, Fradi fans often chant anti semitic slurs at games. There is a traditionally Jewish club in Budapest - MTK - and Ferencváros fans used to show up to games with banners saying the ‘train is leaving for Auschwitz’

I wonder if Chicago has a large Hungarian Jewish population. My father's mother's parents were both Hungarian Jews. Their families were both originally from what is present day Košice, Slovakia, but was part of the Hungarian Empire then. They spoke Magyar more than Yiddish and definitely identified as Hungarian. Their synagogue in Chicago was mostly Hungarian Jews and they are buried in the Hebrew section of an Austria-Hungary cemetery.

yh in the past it was common for satmar women to still speak hungarian as well as yiddish even after leaving hungary but that was quickly lost in favour of yiddish
