@thaothaothaomusic: From our brilliant choreographer Jas Lin: “Sick of the Times” is an antidotal anthem for our times, and I wanted the choreography to embody that medicine. I started with a movement language that reflects the symptoms of living in this moment. Throughout the video, the movement transforms– from dissociated to embodied, isolated to united, fatigued to energized, disillusioned to empowered. The video begins with the gestural motif of a scratch: a contagious tic, an involuntary movement, an urge for embodied connection. Thao starts alone onstage, numb and detached in her performance. As she joins the dancers off stage, they begin to build a collective momentum that carries them through acts of care and solidarity. Towards the end of the song, Thao’s repetitive chanting of “SICK OF THE TIMES” acts as a spell, harnessing the full spectrum of emotion from rage to pleasure, expressed through both individual and collective movement. The scratch from the beginning of the video is transmuted into a full-bodied thrashing– an embodied release that feels irresistibly pleasurable, celebratory, and connective.
