Y'all didn't understand the book if you don't understand why she went back. Charlotte was truly ahead of her time. She wrote a male character who was also a victim of the marriage culture back then. He was tricked and trapped but He was a good man. That's why he takes care of Adéle. He isn't required to, he knows she is not his child, but she has no one so he pours his love into her. He still took care of his wife even though he could've had her committed to an asylum. He protected his reputation, that of her family's, while also providing a far more humane situation for Bertha. He is truly the kind of man any woman could want but he should've been honest with Jane. Two things can be true at once.
