i just had to get my small roller carry on force checked cause some backpacks had to go in the overhead bins… so no i don’t agree with this. if you only have a backpack, keep it under your seat pls it’s common courtesy. I didn’t ask to spend over 30 minutes waiting at baggage claim when ur allowed a bag and carry on :/

What if you bring a small handbag/bumbag and put that under the seat? Because ur not supposed to have anything on you for takeoff & landing.

Space is limited. “Fairness” doesn’t always mean equal space for every person. There isn’t enough overhead for every person. You can still have legroom even with a backpack under the seat.

A purse / manbag / mini backpack counts as a personal item and takes up basically zero room of leg room. When they ask me why my backpack is up top, it's because my under the seat space is taken up by my personal item. Not my fault that the personal item is just a bag smaller than a shoe.

You too can bring a roller bag so you can utilize the overhead bin space . Knowing that the overhead bins are for roller bags, you choose to not bring one therefore you choose to not use that space

Apparently hotter take: they need to fucking enforce the “one carryon, one personal item” rule. I’m so sick of those people you described that bring a roller bag, backpack, bags from the stores in the airport, etc with them when they board. They’re always the entitled assholes that store ALL of that in the overhead and cause everyone else at the backend of boarding to have to gate check their things

depends on how your flight works. If your backpack is a carry on then yes you’re entitled to put it in the overhead bin but if it’s your “personal item” then you can kick rocks

overhead is for carryon item under seat is for personal item. if your carry on is a backpack and your personal is a purse your backpack goes up, if your carry on is a roller and your personal is a backpack your roller goes up, also why I try not to be the last person on the plane so there's still room in the bins

Because you decided to bring a personal item instead of a carry-on. Carry-on luggage go above and personal items go below. A backpack, purse, tote, etc are all personal items. There is not enough overhead bins for everyone to have a cary-on luggage.

That’s fine as long as you leave it up there. It makes me so mad when someone makes the whole row stand up so they can get the bag they stored overhead when there’s room for your bag with you
