Proteins, fats and carbohydrates are three of the most important nutrients our bodies depend on every single day. Yet we often try to divide them into “good” and “bad” - especially fats and carbohydrates. But biology is much more interesting than that. Proteins provide the building blocks for muscles, enzymes and countless structures throughout the body. Carbohydrates are one of our main sources of readily available energy, helping power everything from movement to brain activity. And fats are absolutely essential. They’re not simply something our bodies store. Lipids are a fundamental part of the membranes surrounding every cell in your body. They’re also involved in hormone production, help us absorb fat-soluble vitamins and provide a concentrated source of energy. Even carbohydrates, which are often treated as something we should avoid, play an important role in supplying energy - particularly when our bodies need it quickly. None of these nutrients is inherently “good” or “bad”. Problems usually begin when the overall balance, quantity or quality of our diet changes. Our bodies are incredibly complex systems, and they weren’t designed to depend on a single nutrient. Proteins. Fats. Carbohydrates. We need all three. #Nutrition #Biology #edit#HumanBody #Nutrients
