i think it’s okay to feel guilty for quitting because i’m sure there were positives in the experience and you literally changing lives but higher ed needs to do better. the hierarchy is insane at some colleges and even the small ones have issues.

Telling my dept chair was tough. They offered me other positions within the department but it all boiled down to poor pay. The other positions they offered payed less than my faculty position lol.

I get that but it’s a great example for your students. Like you, they shouldn’t accept less than they’re worth. And they should do what’s best for them.

I always viewed my professors, especially tenured ones, as so powerful and untouchable, always assumed they had deep respect for each other as fellow faculty and PhDs pushing towards the same or similar goals... I never realized or even really considered that there could be so much going on behind the scenes. it's crazy to think about now
