If it's in a work fridge, unlabeled, and sits there for an unnecessary length of time, I feel like it's fair game. Weird that she "remembered" it right after you drank it, and not at all in the two months it's been there.

nta. I once had a coworker open my energy drink in the work fridge and pour it down the drain because it had "been there for three days". it hadn't - I just consistently buy the same flavor and put it on the same shelf bc that's where there's space for it

In most places your personal property is considered abandoned after 30 days. Leaving an unlabeled, unopened drink for over 2 months is abandonment. She's lucky their employer doesn't do weekly/monthly fridge cleaning because it would have been trashed long ago.

Right thing would have been to bring a replacement in. She probably kept it there for when she really needed it just like you really needed it. It isn't about arbitration it's about how to keep the peace. Drinks don't expire in a few months so she probably did stash it counting on it. As much as you're saying you really needed it that day, she had the same need the day it wasn't there for her.

NTA. if you leave it 2 months I assume it abandoned based on the fact that this person barely ever comes there, and if there is an issue with taking it, paying the money for it is totally OK. I would never expect anything I left in a work fridge to still be there after so long

nta. personally I don't think she had the right to store things in the fridge since it isn't her office. using it for the day that she's there, fine. but keeping it there for months is wild.

If someone grabes your stuff, yes you'd be upset. But... But... If something is left there for so long like this case a few months, I think it shouldn't be so much drama, specially si ce the owner is rarely in the office

I work at a hospital with a full sized fridge and freezer. Recently I brought in a frozen meal for lunch, on a break I went to the little break room to grab it and it was gone, I turned around to say something to my coworker who was on her break when I saw what she was eating. Her face when I was like " Hey did you take my lunch" ...She explained she often buys the same frozen meals and forgot whe lunch so she came to check to freezer to see if she still had any of her "back up frozen meals" in the freezer, saw it ans thought it was her. I didnt get mad in fact I still think it was so funny and now whenever she complains I get to say " At least no one stole your lunch"

Its been months and she just now wanted it? Nah, she only remembered when she noticed it was gone. Label your things next time, especially when you aren't going to use them right away

Nobody is the AH like yeah she's definitely should have labeled it as hers but also from the sounds of it she's not in the office often which isn't her fault but OP and yea redbull provides more caffeine but from the sounds of it there were more options 🤷♂️

NTA from the context that is given it seems that the "other employee" put something in a shared fridge, whitout communicating it to anyone or at least labeling it as their own. There's literally no way for OP or the other colleagues to know it was theirs personally.

since there's stuff left in that fridge regularly that's up for grabs. I'd honestly say, everything personal should have a label stating who's it is. no label, OP asked the office if it belonged to anyone, and from the sounds of it this person isn't even part of their office, they just come in once in awhile. it's weird to assuming anything you'd leave behind for 2 months+ would still be there
