I think it could’ve been cool if it stayed that way with some damage until whatever the fast travel equivalent would be, to imply he got it repaired. So in peak combat, it can still look torn to shreds, afterwards still has a little damage but looks more appealing, and then makes sense for it to go back to normal

I disagree. Most people like battle damaged suits plus if you finish a fight without getting hit and have your suit completely intact is a great sense of accomplishment. People will try to get hit less with the goal of keeping their suit clean and insensitivities players to play better
