Nobody can agree on tonight, so I made an AI settle it. Exact score, scorers, and how it ends: last slide. No spoilers in this caption, I promise. Here's what I actually did, because "AI predicted it" usually means someone asked a chatbot for a guess. This isn't that. I gave Claude Code one prompt before the game. It sent out four research agents while I watched, and they pulled 54 sources between them: every result Mexico and England have played at this World Cup, the world Elo ratings going back years, the live bookmaker odds, last night's injury press conferences, and a published medical study on what altitude does to footballers. Then it wrote a proper match simulator, the same Poisson maths the betting industry uses, and played tonight's game 100,000 times. Everything you're about to swipe through came out of those simulations. A few things it found surprised me. England have battered Mexico historically. 23 goals to 4 across nine meetings. But England have never won a match on Mexican soil. Not once, ever. And tonight is at the Estadio Azteca, 2,200 metres above sea level, where Mexico have never lost a World Cup game. The research says altitude like that is worth about half a goal to the home team. Even Tuchel admitted this week that you cannot physically adapt to it in four days. The model's job was to weigh England's quality against Mexico's fortress, and the way it plays out is the eerie part. England are actually slightly MORE likely to score first, because their best spell is early, before the thin air starts biting. It's level at half-time in almost half the simulations. But Mexico's goals pile up late, nearly half of them after the hour, exactly when sea-level legs go. And whoever leads at half-time almost always goes through. The winner came from behind at the break in less than 5% of 100,000 simulations. One more thing worth knowing: the bookies disagree with my model. They still make England favourites. The entire difference between their number and mine is the altitude. I think they're underpricing the air. Tonight we find out who's right. What's in the slides: the three facts everyone already knows, the predicted line-ups on a pitch (watch the gold flank, Mexico's top scorer attacks the side where England's right-back only got passed fit yesterday), how the expected goals were built, what the Azteca does to them, when the goals come, who scores, the full percentages over 90 minutes, and then the prediction itself. Score, both scorers with minutes, and how the tie actually ends. Save this now and check it against the real thing at kickoff, 1am UK time. Comment ENGLAND or MEXICO with your call before you swipe to the end, I want to see who backed the machine and who backed their heart. And follow, because win or lose I'm posting the full scorecard after the final whistle. If the model gets it right, you'll want to have seen this before the game and not after. If it gets it wrong, you get to watch me be humbled at three in the morning, which is arguably better content. For the people who'll ask: yes, the code is real, one page of Python anyone could read. Yes, every number traces back to a cited source. No, this is not betting advice, it's an experiment in what AI can actually do with a real question in a single evening. The method video is on my page if you want to see how the whole thing was built, prompt to prediction. Mexico vs England. Round of 16. Estadio Azteca. 87,000 people, 2,200 metres, 1am UK. The machine has spoken. Last slide. #england #mexico #worldcup #ai #worldcup2026
