Oh pre-show book readers hated Shane really badly especiallypost tlg. It was real hard being a fan of the character, I almost got banned from the reddit for explaining to other readers that Shane is not a mind reader and he doesn't know what Ilya is thinking (unlike what the readers do)

I read the books about 3 years ago. I wasn’t in ”booktok” or anything, i didn’t discuss about the books with anyone and I loved Shane! So imagine my suprise when they told that HR is going to be a TV show and so many said that ”u are gonna hate Shane” 🤯 So i think the Shane-hate was some kind of ”follow the leader” stuff: like always, haters are more loud and wanting to be center of the antention, and the flock just followed 🤷🏼♀️

many MANY book readers dogged on shane before the show happened bc they wanted to blame all of ilyas issues on him bc ilya is rr and the audience’s baby i love ilya down but even reading the books you can tell none of it was shanes fault or something he shouldve carried himself. and since hudson studied shane before the show he definitely saw peoples opinions on him 💔💔

Shane Hollander carries an emotional burden so immense it’s almost painful. He is real, flawed, and deeply relatable. Watching him lower his guard, overcome his anxiety, and open up throughout the scenes is a beautiful and rewarding experience and Hudson’s performance was the highlight that allowed the audience to see Shane as an individual, rather than just a "partner." That is where the magic lies: Shane is the character the audience identifies with most someone in whom people see themselves and with whom they form a deep connection I’ve seen thousands of beautiful stories about LGBTQ+ people and people on the spectrum and I identify with that myself so that will always be the highlight.

Shane was so hated pre-show, and we know he was lurking in fan spaces and he probably saw that, at the first signing event apparently he had to wait ages to sign anything because everyone had mostly Ilya stuff. But all the love he put into Shane made everyone else fall in love with him as well and now he gets to see that recognised ❤️

I love him so bad too, he genuinely has made such a difference in the perception in shane for a lot of people. Though I loved shane already, Hudson brought what shane REALLY is to the screen

the majority of book fans hated shane, hudson said that he saw what book fans were saying about shane when he was casted and it was all hate. also rachel reid hates shane

Hudson really worked a miracle bc RR wrote Shane in a way where he wasn’t supposed to be as loved as Hudson’s portrayal made him. He mentioned doing a deep dive on Reddit to research his character when he got the role and I think he must have seen a lot of negative takes on Shane’s character on there. Even at the very first fan signing before the show aired barely anyone had Shane merch for him to sign, most fans only had Ilya merch. So to go from that to this (winning multiple awards for his performance as Shane) is something he should be so incredibly proud of. He really changed the way the HR fandom perceived and understood Shane.
