@destinysmithfitt: I hope one day you understand that so much of who I’m trying to become is because of you. I’m trying to break cycles for you. I’m trying to heal parts of myself so you never have to carry them. I’m trying to build a life where you always feel safe, loved, supported and proud of where you come from. You’ve watched me work hard, start over, figure things out as I go and keep pushing even on the days I’m tired. And I hope when you’re older, you realize I wasn’t chasing a perfect life. I was chasing a better one for you. I want you to grow up knowing you can do anything. I want you to have opportunities I never had. I want you to know what it feels like to have someone in your corner no matter what. I became your mom when I was still growing up myself. We’ve kind of grown up together. And somehow, through every version of me, you’ve always been the reason I wanted to become better. People say they want the world to be proud of them. But you are my world. And if one day you look at me and think, “my mom really did everything she could for me,” that will be enough.
