@alyssa.in.hawaii: Holy cow… I saw this on the road today driving up to the volcano… Lots of downed trees on power lines 🌳⚡️ There’s still a lot of work ahead to get this area back up and running Big mahalo to all these crews hard at work 🙏🏼🤍 We appreciate everything you do I took this video today, August 18, two days after Hurricane Lala #hurricanelala #lala #recoveryefforts #bigisland #hawaii
HELCO could be more proactive before storms by trimming trees and addressing obvious hazards around power lines instead of waiting until after the storm to react. With Hawaiʻi residents paying some of the highest electricity rates in the country, we should expect better planning, preventive maintenance, and investment in reliable infrastructure. Storms are inevitable—many of the problems they cause don’t have to be.

⚠️If you have no kuleana to be there, it’s best to stay off the roads which helps it to be much more accessible to all the essential workers & volunteers trying to help people located in those rural & remote communities.
