@betibuilt: Dont wait on this and dont screw it up!! This can be an intimidating thing to do on every project because there is so much to consider, and if you screw up, people will be salty. Always review with a senior engineer, and always consider this as soon as possible when a project starts. Its much better to oversize early, because everyone will be happy when it gets smaller, but you also gotta be realistic so the electrical budget doesnt look ridiculous from the start. If you’re serious about learning, follow my page. I’m a licensed PE who went from unemployed grad to leading $100M+ projects in under 5 years. I’ll show you exactly what to learn, what tools to use, and how to build a portfolio that gets you hired. All the things I wish I had when I was starting out. 👉 Click link in bio to learn the skills engineering firms are hiring for right now #electrical #engineering #student

EE PE here:....school didn't teach me 90% of what I do as an Electrical Engineer ...I would go as far as 95%...

You add all that extra slop then find out the building draws 1/10 of your calc.. it happens all the time

100% get this right. I work on the utility side of electrical distribution, if you need to upsize the XFMR size, we need to do a new load analysis for the feeder/circuit and the minimum timeline on this is typically 12 weeks for the design alone. If there’s any other mandatory changes like going from overhead to underground/padmount we are talking about 10+ months including construction.

I’m an EE E.I.T and I would love to have a mentor like you big dog! Any advice how I can learn more stuff like this? I am currently in a MEP small company working under a PE, but it just feels like I’m just working on red-lines rather than actually learning how to do the design.

work in utility as a dist. planning engineer. I love when we don't get accurate load details. they say they need a 1500 kva padmount when they realistically need a 300 kva. or when their load demands don't have diversity factors or factors saying 100 kW of load will have a diversity factor of 125%, meaning your load will be 125 kw. love it
