I see it a lot too. I've seen ads like "hiring experienced industrial maintenance technicians with welding certifications, PLC experience, mechanical knowledge, trained in industrial electricity, control circuits knowledge a plus!" and the pay they're offering is like $15/hr. they want a diet engineer who is also skilled in trades work for fast food wages. literally no one who is able to do half of that is going to even look at that job. from what I can tell, nearly every industry is like that.

Pizza place I used to work at was hiring managers at $18hr in 2022, now they're hiring at $11hr. like how tf does that make sense.

I had to explain why $25 an hour isn’t enough if you have bills to pay. I’m very pragmatic when it comes to either salary or hourly pay. If you’re single depending what you choose to claim -24% out of $25 and that is $19 an hour with taxes taken out 40 hours minimum for full time. Not saying it’s a lot but not proud saying I’ve worked 50 hr weeks. $950 a week x4= $3800 for a month. That would have been great money in 2018 but not in 2026. And I don’t eat out.

The market is so backwards right now, it’s atrocious. I hope this change, but with AI being implemented in many jobs, I think it’s honestly about to get much worse.
