This is a fantastic point! At risk moms need all the sleep they can get.

Yes omg. I had csections with both my girls and I WANTED them to take my baby overnight and they just kept bringing her back everytime I would fall asleep.

I mean I had twins and one cradle was on the front of my hospital bed and the other was on the other side and I was basically left alone with no idea where the diapers were or anything like that. And I was worried I was going to trip or drop baby trying to juggle both the first night. On the plus side I could order gummy bears to my bed from the "room service". And my husband probably should have stayed the first night but he went home to be with our 2 year old. Also it was Covid September 2020.

I had two babies on the east coast and one on the west coast. My west coast delivery was sooooo much easier and better than east. I was taken care of. I was brought the baby to nurse but strongly encouraged to give baby back so I could sleep. Lactation nurse just showed up with no pressure to nurse but lots of tips, tricks and tools. They took care of the baby AND me. East coast? I had to tell them every last thing I needed. It was not about me at all. I had zero breastfeeding support. It was horrible in comparison.

when I have my first baby they didn't have a nursery bc it was covid. i had an emergency c section after being induced. me and my husband were uo for hours. I had a traumatic experience that I couldn't even process and a screaming baby in my face. the nurses laughed when my husband asked if there was any sort of nursary. thank god we had an angel of a nurse who took out daughter for a few hours for us to rest. completely different when I had my son in 2024 at a different hospital with a planned c section. they said my job was to recover

I have five kids. My first was born at a hospital that required the baby to stay in the room with me and another mother who was detoxing and absolutely miserable. They had taken her son and she was grieving the whole time. I gave birth at a different hospital the four subsequent times. In addition to never having to share a room, the nurses *insisted* on taking the babies to the nursery so I could sleep. It was optional, and I did decline once, because at that point I had nighttime hypervigilance issues, so I slept better with my youngest with me. There is zero question that my first birth experience was horrendous. I requested to be released after 24 hours, despite not sleeping the entire time I was there. 🙄

I was in the hospital for 3 days prior to having an emergency c-section. I was on a magnesium drip, checked hourly for reflexes, could only have 7 ml of water, and no food. Needless to say- I wasn’t sleeping. That continued for 24 hours after birth as well. By that time I was borderline delirious. I asked one of the nurses to take my son for a few hours on my second night post birth so I could TRY to sleep. It was such a terrible experience.

I think during Covid people were going home the same day here. Even this year with my son they let me discharge 12 hours after I had him because he was emergency transported to another hospital and they knew if they transferred me it would take days- but they did do extensive screening to make sure I was okay. I also had a c section so it was a little bit of a crazy experience but we did it

This is so eye opening and interesting! I didn’t know sleep was such a protective measure but that makes so much sense

I was very depressed but blessed with a jaundice baby who continued to sleep 12+ hours a night early on. Someone was looking down on me.

That and pushing the breastfeeding so hard. I know I’m a low supplier and it takes time for milk to come in. Trying to push me to keep trying to breastfeed and not supplement so my baby cries even more isn’t helping. Let me pump and then we can bottle feed in a concentrated say

Sleep is such a must have in my opinion. you have a lot of time to bond with your baby. first few days should be for recovery for mom

God really blessed me. Despite having my baby in Alabama which has horrible maternal mortality rates and health outcomes, my baby was born at Huntsville Hospital Women’s Center after 8 hours of labor. My incredible night nurse took my baby to the nursery and let me get the best sleep of my life. My husband probs wasnt comfy on the pullout couch but he slept too lol. When I woke up in the middle of the night, she brought me sandwiches and ginger ale. I felt so much peace knowing my baby was being taken care of while I was, too. I want all women to have that experience 😭

PREACH!! I had a three day labor ending in a c section. No sleep and no food (except popsicles) for three days. For the next five days, not only was the baby needing me every two hours while I was triple feeding, but the staff was in at least every two hours. BP checks every 6, meds every 4, peds team, OB team, glucose test every hour for the baby, nutrition three times a day, cleaning crew, lactation twice a day, paperwork lady, second paperwork lady, dude who came to check if the room was cleaned, lady who just shows up every day and tells you her name then leaves (QC?), residents, attendings, anesthesia. I’m sure there were more. I didn’t sleep more than an hour for an entire week. I was dreaming while I was awake, hearing voices and kind of like commercials in my head. I didn’t feel tired so I was googling postpartum mania from my hospital bed. Next time I’m setting waaaay more boundaries and not going to a baby friendly hospital.
