✅ Microsoft closed its fiscal year with a strong quarter, but you need to dissect the nuances: **What’s unambiguously good:** ✅ Azure crossed $100 billion in annual revenue for the first time, and growth *accelerated* to 43% from 40% the prior quarter. After a year of “is AI cloud demand plateauing” takes, this is great to see. ✅ Commercial backlog hit $678 billion, up 84% year over year. More important than the headline: the entire $51 billion sequential increase came from customers outside frontier model companies. Exclude OpenAI entirely and backlog still grew 25%. That helps alleviate the bearish argument around Microsoft being solely dependent on OpenAI. Not great - but its a step in the right direction. ✅ M365 Copilot passed 30 million paid seats, up from 20 million in April. High margin AI revenue with lots of room for growth. **Where the context matters:** 🚩GAAP EPS was $4.81, up 32%. Non-GAAP was $4.74, up 23% — and the gap between them is the OpenAI investment impact, not the Anthropic gain. The $3.2B Anthropic markup is still *inside* the $4.74, worth about 33 cents a share. Discrete items added $0.27 net. This reduces the headline beat drastically - though the underlying business still beat expectations. **True Capex Impact:** ☑️ Calendar 2026 guidance moved from ~$190B to ~$175B on two accounting changes — useful life on data center and office property extended from 15 to 25 years, plus more future leases booked as operating rather than finance leases. Committed spending is unchanged. Next quarter alone is guided above $50 billion. This will inflate future earnings as depreciation expense is stretched over a longer life. **What I’m watching:** 👀 Earnings quality, capex & free cash flow, cloud margins, co-pilot subscriptions, and lagging business segments. 🧮At ~$490, that’s roughly 28x trailing non-GAAP and 24x FY27, toward the low end of its historical range. I do own a position, closing in on 5% of the portfolio. Exclude Anthropic and the numbers slightly worsen, but remain pretty close. Not financial advice, for educational purposes only. #investing #stockmarkets #microsoft
