You can't read the Quran without getting explanation from the Hadith. They both taken together.

Harut and marut are two angels who came down to earth to show the people the magic, because the people at that time didn't know the difference between magic and miracles and the angels told them to not do what they're doing

Reading the Quran alone is not enough; the Sunnah is essential to fully understand it. The Quran provides general rules, while the Prophet's Sunnah explains how to practice them, like detailing how to pray and fast

In Islam, God is sovereign over every domain, everything and every force. In Islam, there is a distinction between God’s Qadr (decree) and God’s Rida (desire). Just as a teacher may desire a student to pass but will have to fail him to give him the necessary impetus to eventually pass, so is the case with God. God allowing evil to harm an individual is part of His test, not that He is powerless over evil

King Solomon was a prophet and a messenger. He was the son of the Prophet David and inherited the kingdom from him. God gave Solomon many miracles that did not come to a prophet before or after him. He even controlled the jinn (devils) and could even harness the winds, God willing. But when Solomon died, the devils wrote books that contained talismans and magic teachings and buried them. Under his throne, they appeared to the people as human beings, and they told the people that King Solomon was a magician and not a prophet or a messenger, and that was to mislead the people, and they taught the people how to practice magic. During the time of the Babylonian captivity, they took with them the teachings of satanic magic to Babylon, and there was Harut and Marut, where they alerted the people that this was magic, forbidden, and blasphemy, and Solomon was a prophet and notWith a magician and they tried to explain to people that there is a difference between magic and the prophetic miracle. Babylon was a large civilization that attracted people from different civilizations for trade and the pursuit of knowledge, which led to the spread of magic in all parts of the earth and the magic that is widespread to this day in terms of talismans, spells, and other things.

THE STORY OF HARUT AND MARUT As you read in Surah Sulayman, God granted Solomon a great kingdom and subjugated the jinn to serve him. After Solomon's death, Satan taught people magic, telling them that Solomon was a sorcerer, which is why he possessed such power. Magic spread because everyone wanted to have power like Solomon's. After the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was sent and migrated to Medina, the Jews told him that Solomon was not a prophet but a sorcerer. So, these verses were revealed to exonerate Solomon from the accusation of sorcery, clarifying that his power came from God, not from magic, and that the Jews had believed what the devils had said about Solomon's power. As for Harut and Marut, they were two angels sent by God in human form after Solomon's death and the spread of magic, to teach people about magic and distinguish it from what God had bestowed upon Solomon. Therefore, they warned people against magic and declared it to be disbelief. now go back and read the verses again and you will understand. It's in Surah Al-Baqara Verse 101 to 102

Despite how strange this verse was to you, your ability to find guidance and wisdom in it is impeccable. You’re not missing anything. We don’t know much about harut and marut- god is simply giving knowledge on the origin of magic, why it exists, that it’s wrong, it’s a test for us, and he is still sovereign over it despite the determination of those that commit that sin. Imagine ANGELS telling you “ this is a test, if you do it you are falling into disbelief” and you still do it. God is giving you the truth, and you throw it aside. We dont need to know more than what he telling us, as you said.

There are many stories throughout the Quran, like Harut and Marut, the People of the Cave, and many others, and every story has a different meaning. For Muslims, the Quran is a miracle that speaks to every person in a different way. Personally, I learn a lot from your own interpretation of the Quran and from how careful you are with the words you choose and the way you explain them, and I really respect that. That is why you will find many different interpretations of these stories. The interpretation revolves around the meaning and purpose of the stories, but the way they are explained and the depth of the interpretation can differ from one scholar to another. As ordinary Muslims, our understanding of the Quran is based on what was explained to us by our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and the scholars who came after him. But the Quran still touches each one of us in a different way, and I believe this is part of its miracle. There will be a verse that your eyes pass over, but your heart and mind suddenly stop at it, and you feel it deeply, almost as if it is an answer to a question inside you that you never knew you were asking.

My dear, as you read the part of the Qur'an, and you get a question, I suggest you to continue the reading. Because some ayah in a surah/chapter has a continuation/additional explanation in another surah/chapter, especially the long surah. May God makes it easy for you to understanding the whole Qur'an.

Love your journey! Just a friendly tip: direct English translations can sometimes miss the historical context and reasons behind certain verses. To get the full picture, using a "Tafsir" (Quranic commentary) helps so much! Two amazing ones translated into English: Tafsir As-Sa'di: Super clear, easy to follow, and focuses on the main spiritual meaning. Ma'ariful Quran: Great for detailed background, context, and history behind the verses. Both are available online for free. Wishing you the best on your reading journey! 📖✨

the lesson of Harut and Marut is basically saying how the israelites were directly warned not to use magic; basically testing their faith against their desires and want of power. it shows that they ended up not caring if magic was bad and forbidden, and also ended up using magic to cause division between married couples. they thought that they've unlocked new supernatural powers that bypasses God, but God says they're only able to do what they do because he allowed it and used it to test them. so, the lesson is, for us not to fall on that same destructive path as they did.

The immediate context of the verses were concerning some Jews who objected to Jibrīl (Gabriel) being the angel who brought revelation to Muhammad ﷺ. A particularly important report comes through Ibn ʿAbbās (RA). He narrates that a group of Jews came to the Prophet ﷺ and questioned him about matters which, they said, only a prophet would know. The Prophet ﷺ answered their questions and then asked them which angel was his walī (the angel closely associated with him). When he told them that it was Jibrīl, they said that Jibrīl was their enemy and that if another angel had been responsible, they would have followed him. It was in this context that Allah revealed: “Say, whoever is an enemy to Jibrīl, it is he who has brought it [the Qur’an] down upon your heart by Allah’s permission…” (2:97). This report is specifically transmitted from Ibn ʿAbbās and is recorded in the tafsir tradition through al-Ṭabarī and Ibn Kathīr. There is also a very important ṢaḥI ḥ al-Bukhari report involving ʿAbdullāh ibn Salām, a Jewish scholar who accepted Islam in Madinah. He came to the Prophet ﷺ and asked him questions about signs of the Hour, the first food of Paradise and the resemblance of a child to its parents. The Prophet ﷺ answered that Jibrīl had just informed him of the answers. Ibn Salām then said that Jibrīl was considered an enemy among the Jews. The Prophet ﷺ recited 2:97 in response. Ibn Salām immediately testified that Muhammad ﷺ was the Messenger of Allah. some Jews in the Prophet’s time rejected Muhammad ﷺ and objected specifically to Jibrīl because of their hostility toward him; Allah responded that Jibrīl was merely carrying revelation by Allah’s command. The Qur’an then condemns rejecting a messenger despite the truth he brings. It rejects the accusation that Solomon was a disbelieving magician and instead attributes the teaching of magic to the devils. The verse warns that magic can lead to disbelief and can be used to cause harm, including separation between spouses, but it has no independent power apart from Allah’s permission.

Un islam we believe that Moises , Jesus , Ibrahim, Salomon ect… are all prophets of God , they all came with the same message “ believe in God alone, the day of resurrection, and do good” , but after their death, their people changed the message , and God send them a new prophet , until prophets Mohamed saw who was given the last message that corrects all the changes that were made by human in the previous scriptures ( bible ,torah , book of David .. ect), so we believe Islam is the religious of all the prophets, we believe in all the books send by God ( the original ones , not the actual ones)and Islam is here to correct the changes made in the previous books
