@onlyinarizona: Data center developers are changing how they design and promote their projects as opposition to the massive facilities continues to grow across Arizona and other parts of the country. Demand for data center space remains extremely high, largely driven by the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence. According to a new report from JLL, the national data center vacancy rate has remained around 1% for the third straight year. However, getting local communities to support new projects has become one of the industry’s biggest challenges. JLL reports that more than 66 gigawatts of data center capacity is currently under construction across North America, including about 2 gigawatts in Arizona. In the Phoenix area and surrounding communities, the approval process for new data centers has become significantly more difficult over the past year. Adam Baugh, a partner with Withey Morris Baugh PLC who represents data center developers, said the entitlement process is now “infinitely harder” than it was just a year ago. #arizona #az #ai #onlyinarizona #fyp

Electricity is powered by what? Water. We need the water to produce the electricity. If we don't have enough water for electricity to be produced in the dams, we are SOL. And no, we can't just go totally solar. Solar panels need to be kept clean to work properly. We are in a desert! Don't post that our lakes have enough water. That's not true.

Meanwhile, it keeps getting hotter and hotter here.😭 I’ve lived here for 45 yrs. We are the WORST place for one. Higher electricity and we can’t afford to lose ANY water because we’re in a desert!😭

they don't want to pay their own electricity, bring in their own water and pay taxes. as soon as you make them pay that they pull out of the projects. make laws to tax them out!! they want free taxes.

Data centers are all lies. They barely employ anyone. They kill the ecology in the area. They bring down home values. Arizona is destroying itself because of a few greedy people.

This is absolutely ridiculous. Why would you add a data center to a desert state that is already in a drought & is already hot? WTF😳

when they need more water, what happens to what was used, and if it's harmless, why can't they use what they have initially indefinitely 🤔

I don’t know how this ever made any sense it’s Arizona. We don’t get rain here. Where is the water coming from? You got entire cities like fountain Hills threatening to be out of water in the next couple years, but this is happening? So Katie Hobbs has really done our job, rightshe stopped to sell her water radio commercial really Saudi Arabia doesn’t get a water, but the centers will get all the water because it’s in Arizona property so it’s going back to Arizona right Katie.

its not actually a boom , it creates a small amount of jobs during construction, but after it's maintained by a staff of less than 20-30 people tops, with the recent changes to the amount of water the state is getting from the Colorado River that has to put a hold on any future and current builds.
