Veronica Burton is the key for me. She’s been a top defender, great distributor, 3pt shooting is picking up. Top 2 in the LEBRON metric (4th in O, 8th in D). Gabby, Coach Nakase, the depth. It all gets credited but Burton is the engine of that team imo.

The marketing has been on point from day one, it is a whole experience. From the merch, the venue, the staff and team, no expense has been spared and no compromises made. They know there is a serious , knowledgeable, untapped crowd who wants to have a team they can feel good about cheering for and an organization that supports and welcomes sports fans who are either not welcome or can no longer support men's sports because they are so problematic. For context I am a straight white 55-year-old woman in the Bay Area who has been a sports fan her whole life and has had to set aside personal values in order to remain a sports fan-mainly in connection with my husband and sons...who also recognize how problematic men's sports are. This just feels good, there's no asterisk when saying you're a Valkyries fan. Go Valks!

I feel like the Valks harnessed the perfect storm of new fan engagement, fantastic location for the team & fanbase and then just absolutely NAILED the team concept & branding. Then, when you throw in a selfless player culture & young/underdog upstart players, you just achieve magic. I love this team. 💜🖤

I think they’re gonna be the WNBA’s Heat. The Heat go through ebbs and flows like every team, but never bottom out. As long as Nakase is the coach and Nyanin is the GM, they’ll have a high floor. It’s not in their DNA to tank.
