@newellamusic: About a year ago, I shared a Grief City clip about struggling with insecurity and no longer feeling safe as a daughter after losing my dad. I almost didn’t share it. It was the first time I had publicly opened up that part of my grief, and honestly, I felt a little silly talking about it. Then I opened TikTok in the days that followed and was flooded with hundreds of comments and DMs from daughters saying, I feel this too. Sometimes I still wonder what the heck I’m doing talking about grief on a podcast. I’m not a professional. I’ve been to one therapy session. I couldn’t even finish the one grief book I tried to read. I’ve never been to a support group. I feel “unqualified” most days. But some of the most profound support I’ve experienced after loss has simply come from hearing someone else’s story and realizing I’m not alone. I don’t have grief figured out. We’re closing in on five years without my dad, and there are parts of losing my mother-in-law that I still haven’t let myself fully process. I go between feeling good, feeling numb and wanting to sob. But I’ve learned something powerful happens when we let other people into our grief. Whether you’re new here or have been here awhile, I’m thankful for you. I’m thankful you let me share my grief and that you so bravely share yours with me. I never, ever take that for granted. Grief work is sacred work. This clip is from the new season of Grief City, and I can’t wait to share it and the incredible guests with you. I hate why I’m here sharing this podcast in the first place. But this podcast, and my life after loss, are a testament to something I desperately needed to know five years ago: Beautiful things can still happen after tragedy. 🤍 #griefandloss #griefjourney #fatherloss

My dad wasn’t a “I’ll beat the world for you” guy, but he was a “I’ll fix your dryer so your house doesn’t burn down” guy. Losing him, even though I have a husband, I feel like my safety net was ripped to shreds out from underneath me.

Once my dad passed away 4 years ago it’s like I truly understood ALL the dangers that were/could be around. I am always on edge and watching 😕

I was 19 and i literally felt so scared bc i had no boundaries, no guidance, no champion, no rules. It took my till 7 years ago till i finally faced it. They way he died was way too hard for me to bare and i also had to take care of everyone else. That was my protection from me feeling my pain

Lost him in 2017. It hasn’t gotten any better. The big fall out we had right before didn’t help.

My dad always always believed in me. Not having someone who just blindly had the most confidence in me is so untethering.

I felt like a scared lost little girl. He was my protector. He helped me with everything. He died 6/28/25 and I feel I won’t ever recover

I just explained this to my husband. I used to travel the world, have so much confidence, I knew he would always be there. He took his life three months ago and this is exactly how I feel. I feel like a shell of myself
