Here's why it still looks and smells the part: most of it is water and petroleum jelly whipped into a cheap cream, then dressed up to pass as cocoa butter — dyed brown with Yellow 5 and Orange 4, the same synthetic colors used in cheap candy, and perfumed with synthetic fragrance to fake that chocolate smell. The real cocoa butter is a splash near the bottom of the batch, just enough to earn the words on the jar. The problem is what you're actually rubbing in: a jar of mostly petroleum, synthetic dye, and fragrance — smoothed over your skin, and often a pregnant belly, in the belief that it's pure, natural cocoa butter.
