Slamming doors too. Or peeling out of a driveway. Any man that will use his strength or any external danger as a threat to make a point can never, ever be trusted. I’m so sorry you had to deal with this.

another one is: when they get mad, and you're in two different vehicles, they try to speed up and leave you behind if yours is slower. I had one do this on some back roads because I thought I had forgotten a prescription at home and had to pull over. it's crazy how people can use their vehicles to emotionally abuse their partners in so many ways...

This happened to me many years ago. I was on the back of a motorcycle on a highway called the 134 in the mountains. They were going over 90 mph. I clung on I cried and by the time we got home, I was in a corner panicking and could not believe what I had just experienced. The fact that they were willing to risk our lives.

Not in a romantic relationship, but my dad used to do this all the time and would only drive faster when he saw that we were frightened.

My father does a lot of this. He seems to find it funny when people get scared. And it might be some sick dominance thing or w/e. Same with making surprise appearances on trips, degenerate language like 'you dont know anything', gaslighting, scaring in other way. Everything to keep you on your toes, scard to tall, unsure about him and yourself. makes it to much of a hassle to go into arguments or voice your opinion.

I'll share. she didn't drive fast, she would grab the steering wheel. she did that twice, the second resulting in damage to the truck. I put her out right there

I've had three exes do this. I don't think it was to intimidate at all. I think it was just a poor coping mechanism to stress and I think at least one came from a trauma response from a previous relationship. But it is scary at the time. I think this was more forgivable than the ex that tried to stab me. I had a female police officer tell me that incidents like the attempted stabbing incident tend to escalate over time and it did freak me out at the time.

Having anything done to physically/ emotionally intimidate you is an instant done. Never. Run. Leave. Men, do better. Thanks for bringing attention to this.

This is so true, I had it and road rage is a red flag especially if you are in the car. Punching things when angry even if you aren’t there that leaves damage that you view is also one of the

It only ONLY ever gets worse, and is truly one of the scariest experiences of helplessness. If you let it go, the other person can sense that the fear is decreasing, and has to escalate next time to maintain control. I’m so sorry to everyone who’s gone through this.

Is it still a red flag if my family member that I reconnected with and haven’t seen since childhood does this? It started after she started putting me down in a group setting after being so nice one on one. I called it out and then she made a fake apology that was kinda dismissive. I was in a low mode and then they kept trying to engage me and she kept doing it. I went to the truck and she tried to have a convo asking me what was wrong. I started calling out other weird stuff she was doing and then she started screaming at me when I got a part I don’t think she wanted others to hear. She then said leave my house (I was planning on leaving early before this so I was relieved). And started to drive away and was speeding super fast and breaking really fast to the point the other person in the car said please let me out I’m scared. She then told me “look what you’re doing!!”
