Reminds me of that saying “if you think you’re self aware but are only aware about your negative traits, or traits you need to work on, and never the positive qualities and all the ways you make the world a better place then you’re not self aware, you’re just being mean to yourself”

This is why I appreciate some Taoist approaches. Using soft eyes for improvements, being like water…using a soft approach instead of judging and treating improvement failures as an old friend, trying to understand your humanity. Integrating shadow into light.

I’ve never been more grateful to understand how wonderful it is to be ordinary, and how special it is to be like everyone else. 🥰 remove the hierarchy and see the world so differently. 💗

I’ll be damned, because a big part of why I stepped away from the church was due to the constant feeling that I wasn’t enough. I wasn’t trying hard enough, giving enough, studying enough, serving enough. It was constant guilt and self hatred. Never going back to this in ANY form.

I think so many people do “self improvement” more as performative than from a place of actual healing. The people who are constantly posting sayings and one liners about doing better, I find, are play acting “being healed” rather than actually healing. In my experience healing makes you internal where you don’t have to “show” others you’re healed. You just are. If that makes sense

Everyday this app teaches me that I will never get it “right” as a human. I fell like every pivot I’ve made in my “life code” is a trap that feels like a rest stop or crutch on the way to an enlightenment that doesn’t exist.

In the past ive definitely had moments where I didnt accomplish a goal or had a percieved failing and used pushups or pull-ups like a form of self-flagellation. The lie was saying it was for the purpose of getting a win that I could control but it wasn't. As a former what-would-Jesus-doer i see now it was replacing the pressure of the spiritual mandates of Christianity with a new guilt and a self-imposed punishment modeled after classic religious shame of a failed adherence to what was God's Goverence
