The Tool Hackers Use To Find Every Camera In A City There's a search engine that doesn't index websites. It indexes devices, and it will show you thousands of cameras sitting wide open on the internet. It's called Shodan, and it never hacks a single one of them. This video breaks down how Shodan actually works, why so many IP cameras end up exposed (default passwords and port forwarding, mostly), and how to run the same lookup on your own network to see what you're broadcasting. Then the part that actually matters: how a botnet called Mirai turned about a hundred thousand of these unsecured cameras and DVRs into the weapon that knocked Twitter, Reddit, and Netflix offline back in 2016. Stick around for the five-step lockdown at the end. Most of it is one strong password away. Disclaimer: This video is for education and defense only. Everything shown is about understanding how exposed devices get found so you can secure your own. Only ever scan or test networks and devices you personally own or have explicit permission to test. Accessing a camera, system, or account you don't own is illegal in most countries, even when it has no password.
