For a whole month, it received intravenous drips and oxygen therapy every day, and was given medicine on time. Its frail body endured all kinds of discomfort, yet it still couldn’t pull through. It’s all my fault for being careless over the years. I never paid attention to caring for its oral health and let tartar build up continuously. I failed to notice it silently enduring discomfort, and by the time I realized what was wrong, it was already too late to reverse. We spent five years side by side. It stayed with me through countless low points and soothed all my negative emotions, but I failed to protect it well. It left peacefully and suddenly, leaving no time for a proper goodbye. Every time I think about the days it endured the pain all alone, I am overwhelmed with guilt.
