@hyatt_espanol: I had no idea what I'd walked into. I was in the middle of Gion Matsuri, in Kyoto, and everyone was in white. They've been doing this since the year 869. Three portable shrines come out onto the street, carried on shoulders, through a crowd with nowhere left to stand. What I didn't expect was what came after.
