Not true: While Yanga is an incredibly important figure in Black history and human rights, his actions were confined to a small region in the state of Veracruz. He did not build, influence, or establish the state boundaries of modern Mexico. Therefore he isn’t the first Mexican. You can learn more from Wiki and other sources online if you think I’m wrong. This arbitrary definition of “first Mexican” is disingenuous at best, and really is little more than rage bait to encourage content interaction. Honestly, if we’re going to define “Mexican” as anything other than the modern political sense of the term it would be whomever was the first member of the Mexica that you avoided mentioning by generalizing as Nahuatl. You can’t say that Gaspar Yanga was the Mexican if that was a term he never defined himself as.
