Our routine is tablet, bath, books, sleep. My son has screentime at the end of the day because it’s the ONLY thing that helps him wind down.

I became free when I stopped taking in all the advice from people who are talking about neurotypical kids. My children are autistic/pda…pda brings a whole different approach. They are the outliers and weight was lifted off of me when I let all the noise be just that, NOISE!!!

Our oldest is autistic and youngest is not. We eventually figured out music will help our oldest get to sleep so he got a cd player when he was like 2 years old 🤣 But a TV Def would have worked for him but not our youngest. And keeping things "fair" is so so so challenging!!!!!!

We do the same thing. Also, Beckett has so much screen time and sometimes I feel guilty but he’s a gestalt language processor earlier. As soon as I got him the iPad and stopped worrying about screen time my kid began to talk and I realized how he was processing language , and I am not saying that this will obviously work for any other child, but for us it worked and because the majority of the stuff he watches is educational content, I feel like I have him set up to win a game show at some point in his life because he knows so many thingss lol

A MILLION times YES!!!! This has happened to us so many times and just makes you feel like a failure. Screen time, food choices, language, all the things.

My autistic daughter just turned 9. We had almost 6 years of her not sleeping. Like, every night she was up and hyper from 1-4am. We also both worked and had another baby when she was 2. So it was BAD. But HBO has a series called Classical Baby that she would watch to finally crash back out. If I made her lay down then with nothing, she would have just got herself more worked up!

Yes! My autistic 8 year old son is the same way. 30 minutes with a tablet and he’s out. No screen and he will be up for hours. I’m also so tired of doctors telling me we need to improve his diet. Like you don’t think I’ve tried?! He will quite literally starve himself. 😞
