@yetanotherkansai: Some time ago I visited Katsuoji, a Buddhist temple to the north of Osaka. The temple is quite famous for its daruma -- hollow, round traditional dolls that symbolize perseverance and good luck. At other temples, you can buy these dolls with blank eyes, draw one eye in while wishing for something, and then (if/when the wish is granted) draw in the second one. This temple sells "ready-to-use" daruma with both eyes already drawn. But to keep things somewhat interesting, they come with omikuji (slips of paper with fortunes) inside -- although these are completely neutral, predicting neither good nor bad luck. The number of daruma dolls at this temple is... uncountable? Thousands? Hundreds of thousands? People buy them and leave them in the most random places: on roofs, on branches, under bridges, and so on. The temple itself is located in a very beautiful spot in the mountains, so the scenery is just stunning. And as a bonus, you can walk from there to the Minoh waterfalls. #katsuoji #osaka #minoh #japan #japantravel
