@jensmindbodyreset: One of the hardest parts of kidney failure isn’t just the disease—it’s the hope you’re afraid to let yourself feel. 💔 Someone offered my husband a kidney. She had even started the process of getting tested, and for the first time we started imagining what life after transplant could look like. Then she changed her mind. I completely respect that donating a kidney is an enormous, deeply personal decision. But if you’re considering offering someone your kidney, please understand how much hope those words can give a family fighting kidney failure. Sometimes the emotional part of this journey is harder than people realize. ❤️ #KidneyFailure #KidneyDisease #CKD #KidneyTransplant #OrganDonation
I agree that people need to be certain they are willing before making the offer. If he really is in failure I don't understand why husband isn't on dialysis, either hemo or peritoneal.

You do have a point: think carefully before offering someone the possibility of donating. I had 10 people willing to get tested. In the end, there were 0 left. Mentally, that really broke me. After a second search, I found one donor, and by coincidence, she was also a match. My transplant was three months ago.
We all know that no one is obligated to go through with a donation. But for a recipient, it’s still incredibly difficult to process.

it doesn't seem realistic to offer the kidney if you don't even know it's a match. am I getting this wrong? isn't finding a match the first step?..

And really she should of let her transplant team tell your husband even if she changed her mind they would of just told him she was not eligible and that would of been end of story no hard feelings.

I am a living kidney recipient. And ehile I understand your disappointment, your take is wrong. VERY wrong. That woman had no obligation to make that offer. She did, and it was in all sincerity. Sounds like her husband's health scare brought up for her the realization that if he needed another kidney, she would be devastated if she no longer had one to offer to the man she loves. Living kidney donors can back out up until the moment the surgery starts. So the problem is on YOUR end. Know that it is a gift. Donors do not get paid for their sacrifice. Y'all need to keep your expectations under control until the surgery starts. Don't go off diets or make plans about life after transplant until it takes place. ANY txp can be canceled for all kinds of reasons. Do you have any idea how many cadaver transplants get canceled AFTER recipient has gotten to the hospital & is readied for surgery? Because the organ turned out to be compromised? So no. don't tell ppl they are obligated to follow thru just bc they started the process. You just need to manage your expectations & understand it is THEIR CHOICE until the last minute.
