@scenicfights: MMA Boxer Breaks Down Bryan Hawk’s famous Sway Back technique, and discusses whether it is legit in boxing 🥊🥊🥊 #scenicfights #martialarts #hajimenoippo #boxing #anime 🎥 This anime clip is from Hajime no Ippo: New Challenger (2009). ⚠️ Disclaimer: The techniques shown in this video are demonstrated for educational and entertainment purposes only. Do not attempt to replicate these moves, as they may be dangerous without proper training and supervision. 📜 Lore: The Sway (スウェー, Suuē) is a defensive boxing technique where a fighter leans their upper body backward to dodge incoming punches. In Hajime no Ippo, Bryan Hawk uses this as part of his unorthodox fighting style—dropping his guard low, bending backward dramatically, then snapping back with wild counters. His exceptional flexibility makes it look effortless, but in real boxing this extreme pull-back rarely works. Leaning too far throws you off balance, stripping power from your counters and leaving you vulnerable if the opponent closes distance. Most boxers stick to small slips, rolls, or tight pulls that keep weight centered—preserving defense without sacrificing stability. Hawk's style exists in anime because he has amazing reflexes; in a real ring, that kind of sway becomes a liability.

they do things that is still doable irl, they just exaggerate it for smoother and cleaner look. I mean in RL it's not really looks awesome unless you exaggerate it

The whole point is Bryan Hawk is more instinct than training. he instinctively does the sway back even tho it isn't that effective. whereas Takamura is an effecient fighter rooted in hard training and instinct.

Keep Up! :
it's more like Bryan Hawk was an exception not the standard. 1.) you can't actually be effective with it without the punch reach. 2.) Bryan has the flexibility for that type of fighting style. 3.) it's anime, everything is exaggerated hahaha
