Lindsay 🦆 :
we learned from an early age to confess, even if we had nothing to confess.

I've made a few videos on Catholism as it relates to Lindsey and also Lindsey and Patrick's relationship. I'm ex Catholic. I view things through a critical lens. It's not for everyone. But... to take your talking points here further... consider... Lindsey spoke to Patrick about going on birth control after their second child. Patrick said no... he also had a matrimony account and she wasn't just any Catholic he went to a Jesuit high school.

As an ex-Christian and the sole survivor of a family annihilation, your analysis here is spot on.

I saw someone say that she sounds like she has harm OCD— in which case it would be very realistic for someone to wholeheartedly believe they did something

As a person with OCD, and postpartum OCD, I would apologize for something I didn’t do because my brain often makes me wonder if i did something I don’t know about. I don’t trust myself well. That isn’t because I’m guilty. It’s something I keep recognizing in Lindsay’s patterns.

Yes! I believe Lindsay is punishing herself because her kids are gone - regardless of what happened. She said she doesn’t care if she lives or dies soo

Yes. As a lapsed Catholic, forgiveness is ONLY available through the sacrament of Confession, and absolution can only be acknowledged by the priest to whom you confess it. And you are forbidden from Holy Communion unless you have Confessed. And if you are out of communion, you can’t see your babies in Heaven. I cannot overstate how important the sacraments are in mediating your status with the divine. So glad you brought this up.

When I went to Sunday school we were urged to “confess in case” even if we weren’t sure what we did was wrong or if it happened was our fault (adult kid stuff) you confess anyway “just in case” God thought it was our fault. 💙

Also..roughly one in three adults (about 29% to 36%) in Massachusetts identifies as Catholic.. so think about the jury…

When the doctor today said that Lindsay was concerned about making things right with Patrick as she was waking up in the hospital… that struck me as an abusive dynamic, where she was needing to take care of P since that’s what she had been accustomed to doing.

There’s also stigma attached to divorce in Catholicism. Just sayin.

She was unwell. She was over medicated, she was manipulated and then she was literally drugged while being told the most traumatic news she could ever receive. Of course she would blame herself. Regardless of what she was told she would blame herself. So when she’s being blamed by her own partner and he’s telling her she did it, how would she not take responsibility in that moment.

Now add a controlling abusive relationship into the mix where someone is always gaslighting you into thinking that they’re “picking up the slack” in helping with the family that they created. Apologizing, confessing, asking for forgiveness, then burning yourself out while doing more and more…it’s a vicious cycle.

Or even feeling like “this was my fault” or “i am responsible” if the reasoning was, “well I let this happen to my kids (by Patrick)and I should have protected them. Why didn’t I get out sooner?” kind of mentality.

I would like to add as an ex-religious person, the guilt that religion uses against people is extremely dangerous, and sometimes you can feel like you're guilty because you didn't protect the children and you need to be punished anyway

Check out Amanda Knox case. She confessed to the police to a crime she never committed because of coercion. Its not impossible that she confessed because everyone told her this is what happened.

Also false confessions happen all the time and we know that. She was in psychosis and icu delirium and this is the confession people agree is airtight?

Also as someone who has been in psychosis and outpatient care and treatment, part of it is rejecting your own thoughts and beliefs around the situation and accepting the agreed upon reality of others around you.

as women who grew up in catholic Poland, yes this is on spot. she confessed to what she didn't do. she is a victim of long lasting narcissistic abuse. I doubt she is even close to see this.. unfortunately 😔

I always think the best thing is to accept responsibility and say you are sorry. I didn’t know it was Catholic, but I made up sins to confess to all the time, then worried that lying in confession was probably a mortal sin.

I 100% believe she thought she did it, even though there’s no evidence to support this. It’s actually crazy, but this is something that makes sense and has since the trial started. She doesn’t care because either way her babies are gone and she couldn’t protect them regardless of who did it.

I can’t really speak to Lindsay’s situation. I can speak to mine. In a bad relationship I found myself actually believing that what I was told I was doing was wrong and that I was a bad person. I believed I deserved the abuse. Any time I would question something my partner had done he would make me believe that I was paranoid and making things up. He would then expect an apology from me. After the 7th time actually catching him cheating, and every time he would make me believe I was paranoid until he was caught, I finally figured it out and stopped allowing him to do that to me. It took me 25 years to figure out that I wasn’t doing anything wrong and that I wasn’t guilty of the things he claimed I was. He had our neighbors and friends thinking I was losing my mind. He even told them that he couldn’t leave me became very time he tried I had attempted or threatened to attempt to end myself. That was never true. In fact I had been the one trying to leave and he’d been the one threatening to end me and our child. He even was arrested once for threatening to do it along with our neighbor and her kids. He was law enforcement and they didn’t believe us so they let him go. I can tell you now that men like that are so smooth and confident and charismatic that no one believes what they are capable of until it is too late. My daughter and I barely survived this man. Honestly I always hid it out of shame. I made our relationship look like it was perfect. I never complained about what he did. I was ashamed because I thought it was my fault. And I can absolutely say with certainty this man convinced me at one point that something he did was something I did. It took me years to realize I didn’t do it. My daughter finally told me one day. She actually remembered what happened. I cannot speak for whether Lindsay suffered this or not. I will say that I’m biased and I feel like when I look at her I see something in her that reminds me of myself at that point in time. I can’t place what it is, but I can say that it gives me pause. It makes me stop and look at everything and question the narrative that we are fed. Because I have SEEN personally things are not always what they seem.
