I’ve experienced this. Both of you should have a discussion on the changes, so you can both learn different info and perspectives. If you are still uncomfortable with the change, tell the engineer you’ll do it if they stay for a couple hours. That way when something does go wrong, they should know how to fix it or at least they will learn. The frustration comes from depriving your engineer of knowledge, not their ego

500 MW unit at full load during summer peak. Engineer strolled up to control operator and told him to trip a boiler feed pump turbine to test the runback system. CO asked if he had cleared it with the shift supervisor and dispatch. They didn’t need to approve what I do was the answer. My CO ejected him from the control room.
