@winnythecrab: I won't be active on this channel anymore. I will keep it up but I won't likely be posting very much. Winny didn’t make it. She passed away from what appears to have been both a failed molt and the deep shell rot she had been living with. I was able to give her an extra 17 months of life, and I will always be grateful for that time. Her 17 months with me were filled with food, love, enrichment, and freedom. She wasn’t endlessly trapped in a cage or destined for a plate. She got to live her best life right alongside a family who deeply loved her. Winny carried the torch for Howie. She continued the work of educating the world and proving that even an adult crab, from a completely different part of the world, could be socialized and form a bond with people. She was an ambassador for her species. She helped teach millions of people that crabs are sentient, that they have individual personalities, that they are far more complex than most people realize, and that they can feel their shells. For such a small creature, Winny also carried our biggest message: Don’t boil animals alive. Rest easy, Winny. I hope you find Howie on the other side. You girls can share stories.
