It is so large that writing it out in ordinary decimal notation is physically impossible—not because we lack enough paper, but because there aren’t remotely enough atoms in the observable universe to write all its digits. Even common ways of expressing huge numbers, such as powers (like 10^{100}, a googol) or even towers of exponents, are far too small, so mathematicians define Graham’s number using a special notation called Knuth’s up-arrow notation, where each step creates operations vastly more powerful than exponentiation.
