@akonguahemaa: They are not simply participants in the festival; within Mfantse Akom tradition, they serve as Divine Appointees and mouthpieces through whom the Abosom provide spiritual guidance to the community. When our community elders, Abusua leaders, and traditional authorities fulfill their responsibilities by properly consulting the Abosom and working respectfully with the Akomfo of the community, Nananom Abosompa are given the opportunity to provide their guidance. Our ancient Nananom (Ancestors) understood this relationship. They sought the guidance of the Abosom connected to their lands, waters, families, and communities concerning matters of protection, healing, provision, justice, wellbeing, and communal direction. Within the tradition, that guidance was communicated through their human mouthpieces — the Akomfo (Divine Appointees). The relationship is therefore interconnected: Abosom provide guidance. Akomfo serve as their mouthpieces. Elders carry responsibility. Families preserve the tradition. The community receives and acts upon the guidance. This is why we cannot celebrate Akomase Afahye while overlooking the sacred responsibility of our Akomfo. The festival is not only about dancing, food, clothing, and celebration. Akomase carries spiritual governance, ancestral remembrance, community responsibility, and continuity. When every person accepts their proper role, the ancestral system can function as it was entrusted to us: The Elders consult. The Akomfo listen and serve. The Abosom guide. The community responds.
