I would have security at the door checking everybody’s invitations. If they are not on the grooms/brides personal invitation list, they are not allowed into the venue. Let your mother-in-law get embarrassed as hell about it. She’ll get over it.

The future MIL can either come up with the extra for those that she invited or get ahold of them and let them know they are uninvited. When paying for the wedding, without help, you have final say in everything.

I'd hire someone anyway in order to check with the guest list and turn away anyone who is not in it so I'd just answer "Well you can either uninvite them or embarass yourself by them getting turned away at the venue"
