@enigmaofelysium: The Lives of Ireland’s Travelling Community He didn’t just photograph Irish Travellers, he spent more than a decade getting to know them. Joseph-Philippe Bevillard’s project began with a chance encounter after arriving in Ireland and grew into an intimate record of the lives and unconventional lifestyle of the community. His photographs capture families, children, horses, caravans, celebrations, work, and quiet everyday moments that rarely make it into the spotlight. Rather than focusing only on the idea of life on the road, Bevillard shows the people behind it, their relationships, routines, traditions, and personalities. His work also reveals some of the difficult realities Travellers face, including discrimination, social exclusion, and poor living conditions. They're good people albeit closed off. When I worked at Knock Shrine they used to have elaborate extravagant weddings. I wish, I could've gotten to know them better but my boss was pretty discriminatory towards them and told me they didn't care for Americans.
